Archives: The UNESCO project “Regeneration of the mangrove in the Transboundary Biosphere Reserve of the Senegal River Delta in Mauritania”

The UNESCO project “Regeneration of the mangrove in the Senegal River Delta Transboundary Biosphere Reserve in Mauritania” was launched in May 2008 as part of the joint program entitled as part of the joint program for the achievement of the Millennium Goals for Development (MDG), achieved thanks to the financial support of the Spanish government

Through the reforestation of these ecosystems, UNESCO aims to reduce poverty, food insecurity, and rural migration in
: the resumption of sustainable exploitation of natural resources;
• Promoting the proliferation of various fishery resources for artisanal fishing;
• Producing a new source of food for livestock;
• Fix dunes to protect villages from the risk of silting.

Beyond being a success, this project was a catalyst for new dynamics and new projects within the PND. It has provoked a local desire to expand these ecosystem regeneration actions, which have a medium-term effect, with other local species.
